1. Who we are

Career Lens ("we", "us", "our") operates the website and application at careerlens.org. We provide an AI-assisted CV generation and interview preparation service. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@careerlens.org.

2. What data we collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

• Account data: your email address and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register.
• Profile and CV content: any text you enter into your profile — work experience, education, skills, personal summaries, and any other career information you choose to provide.
• Job descriptions: job posting text or URLs you paste into the application.
• Interview recordings: audio and video recordings you make during interview practice sessions. These are stored temporarily and deleted automatically after 48 hours.
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, timestamps of actions, and browser or device type, collected to operate and improve the service.
• Payment data: payment is processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your card number or full payment details.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Create and manage your account and authenticate you on each visit.
• Generate tailored CVs and cover letters using the content you provide.
• Transcribe and analyse your interview practice recordings to provide AI feedback.
• Send transactional emails such as password resets and account notifications.
• Monitor service performance, investigate issues, and fix bugs.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your CV content or recordings for advertising.

4. AI processing

Generating CVs and interview feedback requires sending your content — including job descriptions and career information — to third-party AI providers via secure API calls. These providers process your data solely to return a response and are contractually prohibited from storing or training on your content. We do not share any information that identifies you personally with these providers beyond what is necessary to complete the request.

5. Data storage and security

Your account data and CV content are stored on Supabase, a cloud database provider with servers in the European Union. Interview recordings are stored in private, access-controlled cloud storage and are deleted automatically after 48 hours. We apply industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to your data is restricted to authenticated sessions and to staff who require it for support or operations.

No method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we take appropriate precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data retention

• Account data: retained for as long as your account is active, and for up to 30 days after deletion in backup systems.
• CV and profile content: retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual items at any time from your dashboard.
• Interview recordings: automatically deleted after 48 hours regardless of account status.
• Usage logs: retained for up to 90 days for operational and security purposes.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Delete your account and associated data.
• Restrict or object to certain processing activities.
• Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@careerlens.org. We will respond within 30 days. You can also delete your account directly from your account settings, which removes your profile and CV data immediately.

8. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to maintain your authenticated session. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this policy and request consent where required.

9. Children

Career Lens is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of the page. For material changes, we will notify you by email or via a notice in the application before the change takes effect.
